Remington's Facial Hair

Danielle doesn't know I'm doing this (she's at work, and I have the day off due to snow), but I'M TAKING OVER!!!  MUAHAHAHA!

For those who don't know, Danielle hates facial hair.  I've always wanted to grow a beard, but between Chick-fil-A and my mission, I haven't been allowed to do so.  Well, Danielle didn't want to let me grow one either, but I went ahead and did so anyway (a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do).  After about a month of growing, I went ahead and shaved it off.  While doing so I took some pics of the different facial hair options, and I figured I would post them as both a way for people to comment on which they like best and if they think Danielle should let me grow some more in the future, and also as a way to commemorate my middle-school love for professional wrestling.  So here goes (and please excuse the matted down hair; this was pre-shower):

The Macho Man

Frankincense, Myrrh, and GOLDBERG!

Hulkamania

The Stache and Soul Patch (I couldn't remember any wrestlers with this one)

The Norman Smiley Stache

So Fresh and So Clean (Disco Inferno)

And let me just say a couple of things about the wrestlers I have chosen: 1. Goldberg is the greatest wrestler ever.  Hands down; 2. Norman Smiley may not be very well-known, but he should've been.  In my book he is the most underrated wrestler of our time.

Anyway, I may have shaved today, but that may not be the case in the future, and with my wife being such an antagonist against my facial, I'll need all the support I can get when the day comes that I do want to regrow my facial hair.  I would also like to know which style I should aspire to next.  I'm out...for now...

Snow day! And my cooking skills....

Living in Arkansas, you never know what the weather is going to be like. One day it can be sunny and 70 and then the next 6 inches of snow on the ground. That seriously did happen last year. Today we had our 2nd snow day of the season. Thank goodness most of it was snow and not a ton of ice. Ice is what we usually get here along with the bitter cold. School was out and I worked from home. I didn't work as much as I should have. Just realized that I should have sent some reports out. For some reason I thought it was Wednesday. Guess I better get those our first thing in the morning!

I woke up at a little after 5 like every morning and took a look out the window. There was probably 2-3 inches of snow on my car (parking outside is one thing I will NOT miss when we have a house one day). I checked the local news website and school was canceled. When my alarm went off at 5:15 I just turned it off and rolled back over to sleep. One of the awesome things about having technology is you can access your work email from bed and say "Yep I'm not driving in this." and roll back over to fall to sleep again. hehe. Finally about 9:30 I got out of bed. I wanted to get laundry done today so I can relax on Saturday. I ended up being pretty productive. Got most of the laundry done (still have stuff that needs to be done by hand) and the kitchen is squeaky clean! Why I don't clean it that well more often, I don't know. Not saying I will start, but it's a good thought. :) In-between laundry and work I watched a few more episodes of Lie to Me on NetFlixs (http://www.fox.com/lietome/). It's a show about this guy that's a scientist that can read people and tell if they are lying. He helps the police and FBI to solve cases. It's a pretty cool show. He's a funny english guy that turns his head to side and holds his mouth open when he's trying to figure out what people are thinking.

I ventured outside not long after waking up to take Izzy out. She obviously need to go the bathroom, so I said "Let's go make some yellow snow." I put her little pink jacket on her to keep her warm. Even though she has plenty of fur, she really does get cold out there. At the bottom of the stairs, there was a frozen dead bird. Rem had told me about it and I took a picture with my phone. I'll spare you the picture. It warmed up this afternoon and a lot of the snow melted. They've already canceled school for tomorrow so I plan on working from home. Rem said "Well what if your co-workers go in?" You see I have a trump card when it comes to bad weather. When Rem and I got married 2 years ago, we had a reception down in Springdale. When I was on my way down there, I totaled my old Explorer. So now whenever the weather gets bad, I refuse to drive in it. And when I tell people what happen, they understand. Hopefully I won't have to go in tomorrow....

My Cooking Skills....
Before Rem and I got married, I cooked. Since I lived by myself I didn't cook a whole lot. I ate out for lunch sometimes or brought leftovers to work. It wasn't until about 6 months into our marriage, I got more serious about cooking. With a recipe and ingredients I could cook but I like easy cooking. Meaning, I like few ingredients and a few simple steps. So I began actually using the cookbooks people had given me and the internet of course. My cousin Michelle, told me about a website called sparkpeople.com. It's a website all about being healthy. It has all sorts of resources, including recipes that include the nutritional information. Before I went grocery shopping, I'd pick a few main dishes to make from my cookbooks. This was also in an effort to reduce impulse spending.

Recently I tried this recipe from kraftrecipes.com. This is a little more fancy looking but really isn't that hard to make. These are cheese lover's pasta roll ups. You have to cook the lasagna noodles first, make the cheese mixture and then bake. The mistake I made was I didn't have enough spaghetti sauce. When the lasagna noodles aren't covered they end up hard. But they turned out yummy!

Enjoy!

New Year, new job and everything else...

With the start of the new year, I started a new job. I originally moved to NWA to begin working at Walmart. While I loved my time at Walmart, there were times that working spilled over into my personal life and effected Rem and mine relationship. The people I worked with were truly amazing, but I knew it was best to say goodbye. Leaving Walmart was hard, but I left for an opportunity that I knew would be best for me and my future family. Many women who work at Walmart have successful careers and families. I, however, do not have the mental capacity to do such. I admire the women that have full time jobs and full time families.

Now I work at a company called Benton-Park Properties. We support automotive suppliers that do business with Walmart. Moving to a small office has been very different for me. I now work with 3 other men and have my own office. My office is very bare right now, but once I get some decorating done, I'll be sure to post some pictures. I even have 2 large windows! This is something you NEVER see at Walmart. The office is very quiet but I am getting used to that. Right now, I am only running a few reports weekly but hope to take on more work in the future. It is a huge change of pace for me to adjust to. Typically at Walmart you have a million tasks to accomplish during the day and knew that you wouldn't accomplish all of them. Now I know that I will have plenty of time during the day to finish my work. And the only time I've taken my laptop home, was because it snowed and I worked from home the next day. Every night when I get home from work, I feel empty handed without a laptop. But I am NOT complaining!

Rem has been teaching for the past few months at Springdale High. Now instead of being the nerdy student, he is the nerdy teacher. Ok I'm only half kidding on the nerdy part. :) He is teaching Spanish, Geometry and Personal Finance. Teaching 3 classes is a little rough on a first year teacher but he's trying to make the most of it. When Rem was an intern (student teaching), he taught Spanish. He says that teaching Math is really boring. I keep reminding him that I can't think of a math class that wasn't boring. I was lucky enough to have a super cool teacher. Personal finance is the class Rem is the most excited to teach. Since we are big Dave Ramsey fans, he loves trying to get his students on the right path as far as finances are concerned. He applied for a grant from Dave Ramsey for teaching material and he got it! This past week he received his material and is very excited. Hopefully with this material, he can change the lives of his students. Including the one that says she's going on to make a career out of stripping....

Izzy has been spending her time as she always does. She holds down the couch and occasionally poops in the floor while we are gone to work. This past week was exciting for her because she got to play in the snow. She likes the snow but doesn't like it when the grass is icy. She also got a hair cut yesterday. Izzy hates getting hair cuts but she was pretty good for me this time. Today Izzy has been particularly playful and she's driving Rem crazy! She's a sweet little pup! She has recently discovered peanut butter.

Here's a picture of Izzy after we returned from our trip to AZ. I had some laundry to do from the trip. I guess this was Izzy's way of trying to help. Or well I should say, this is guilty written all over her face.

Ok only a few more pictures of Izzy and I'll talk about something else.

This is her Hot Dog sweater!

And her pokadot bikini! This is Rem's favorite!

Everyone has to have a Christmas sweater!

Rem took these pictures while I was sleeping. Doesn't she look fierce. She's only thinks she's a guard dog.

This weekend we went bowling with 2 other couples - John, Cristy, Amiee and Justin. These pictures are only iphone quality. But we had a good time! Rem and I are just going to claim that we thought the object of the game was to get the lowest score. :)

Here goes Rem...

This is my favorite picture from the night. We congratulated each other for spares and strikes. This is Rem after a spare.

Justin takes a turn.

Now our friend John, he has his own shoes...

...his own ball

...and no friends.

But he did get a strike!

Amiee - Don't let that foul line get the best of you!

 Enjoy!

Christmas and New Years!

For Christmas this year we headed to warmer weather! Along with my parents, we drove to AZ to stay with my Grandma McClain. Yes we drove. Are we crazy? Maybe. 27 hours later we arrived in sunny Mesa. Well actually it was 5am and I had to wake up Bubba. That's my brother. His name is Ryan. And he has big pecks.

He's the young man on the far left. Then there's Diddy, me and Mi Madre. No I am not adopted. This is my family. Bubba (Ryan is his real name) looks like mom and I look like dad.

Bubba is a personal trainer in LA but he met us at Granny's house for Christmas. We got to see a lot of cousins on Mom's side and also family on Dad's side. My Aunt Janet and Uncle John got a 2nd house in Phoenix. We had a blast w/ my cousins (Becky and her hubby Ryan, Kristin, and Michelle). Granny Williams also made the 10 hour drive from Utah.

This is Kristin, Becky and I at the visitors center at the Mesa temple.

For New Year's we hung out at our friends Amie and Justin.

Cristy on vocal and John practicing his drum skills.
Justin and Amie- they let us party at their house often.
Rem is serious about the guitar.
Did I mention John has serious drum skills?

Here's a family pic!

Izzy loves to party too.

Me avoiding the Brillo pad on Rem's face.

I love him, just not facial hair.

Rem and Izz!

I think this picture is so cute. I'm going to print this picture for my new office. Tomorrow I start my new job. That means I should get to bed soon.

Enjoy!

The beginning of the Myers blog!

A few moments after I created the account for my blog, Rem says to me "Do you think your life is interesting enough to blog about?" Thank you dear for the vote of self confidence... But he does have a point, we are pretty simple. During the week, we work and then on the weekends, we hang out with friends or make a 5 hour drive to see my parents or friends. Well here goes anyway!

About us-
Rem and I have been married for almost 2 years. We met in Fayetteville at church through a mutual friend. When I first moved here, he had a girlfriend. But they eventually broke up and he asked me out. I had plans when he asked me out for the first time. (Not w/ another girl- I had a wedding I was in that weekend for my friend Lindsey) And it took probably another month before our friend Liz could get him to ask me out. We went to dinner and then to hang out w/ friends. But during the date, his old girlfriend called and he answered. Then when it came time to say goodbye for the night, I didn't so much get a smile out of him when I thanked him for dinner. For some unknown reason, when he asked me out again, I went. :) About 5 months later, we decided we wanted to get married and Rem proposed. Then another 5 months later, we were sealed in the Dallas Temple for all time and eternity.

These are just a couple of the wonderful photos that Erika Dotson took. http://www.erikadotsonphotography.com/ Erika is an amazing photographer. If you need are in the market for a photographer and live in NWA, Erika is your girl!

Here's a shot of everyone that attended.
And another one of my favorites.
2-21-09 the Myers began!

Rem- AKA Remington (yes like the shot gun), Remmy, Rem-shot and who knows what else

Rem is a local boy. He was born and raised in NWA. He attended Springdale High School and the University of Arkansas. Rem served his mission in Tuscon, AZ. In May of 2010, he completed his masters in Teaching. He now teaches at his former high school. This is Rem's first year teaching and he is well....I don't think decided yet. I know that Rem is a great teacher but the students aren't always so wonderful. He does come home with some good stories. Right now, he is teaching Spanish, Geometry and Personal Finance. For a first year teacher, he's got a full load to teach. Hopefully next year that will change and he can concentrate on one subject. We are just grateful he was able to find a job.

Me- Danielle (I'm not sharing my nick names!)

I am a transplant to NWA. I lived in the south all my life (SC, TN, MS, and AR- in that order). When people ask "Where are you from?", I answer- The south. I went to high school and college in NEA. I graduated from Nettleton High School and then went to Arkansas State University. After graduating, I moved here to work for Walmart. In college, I had numerous roommates. Living with 3-4 other girls at a time was super fun! And I'm being completely serious. We all got along and had the best of times! Moving to a 1 bedroom apartment was a big change for me. I decided that I needed a roommate. So I found Isabell.

If you know me very well, you know that Izzy is my little girl! She is a black Pomeranian. These photos are of her having some fun in the snow last January. Rem loves it when I dress Izzy up.

This is her in her Santa suit last Christmas. Nana (my mom) got it for her. She didn't wear the hat this year b/c she chewed the strap off it.

Rem knew that Izzy and I were a package deal. He lovingly adopted Izzy and she loves her daddy. So much that when she needs to use the little girls room in the middle of the night, she stands on top of him and licks his face till he takes her out. Hehe!

Oh and please excuse any mis-spellings and typos!
